“This will be the third show we’ll be hosting,” says ClassicCars’ managing director Paulo Calisto, “and we’ll be going large for this one. For this reason we’ve brought Rolling Thunder on board, and our target is over 1 000 cars and creating a real festival of the classic car life style,

 

” Cars and Rock and Roll will be a major theme of the show, which is set to attract the very best muscle cars, hot rods, customs, classics, vintage and veteran and “pure restorations” to the event.

 

“Why a classic car show? If you look at fashion, music videos, there’s always a classic car in the background. Classic cars are rock and roll” says Rolling Thunder’s Managing Director Mark Groenewald. “For this reason we’ll be bringing some of the best rock and roll acts on board to set up the vibe that we all love.

 

” The Classic Car Show will open at 8 am and run through until 8 pm. And all cars will be displayed in the paved parking areas at Nasrec, as well as in Hall 10, and there will be a special display area hosting a Rolling Thunder Extraveganza in the main arena.

 

Headlining the musical programme will be the “blast from the past” rock act Ballyhoo, while there will be various hard rock and blues acts taking to the stage in the arena as well. There will also be an Elvis impersonator tugging at the heart strings of those who were around when The King was in his heyday.

 

Other attractions will be a Miss Classic Car competition, while a plethora of beautiful promotional ladies will be in attendance to attract visitors to the various cars displays. The MC for the day will be motoring journalist and Ignition TV personality Stuart Johnston, who has a wealth of knowledge in the classic and muscle car fields, and is also a keen rock music buff.

 

“I ran my first show in March 2012, says organiser Paulo Cailisto, “where I was expecting 80 cars and 300 showed up. Then my second show in July was expected to draw 300 cars and 600 cars showed up. So, with this one, we reckon our estimate of 1 000 cars is probably conservative.

 

” Muscle cars from many different genres will be a dominant theme of the show, with the V8-engined classics likely to draw huge attention. Cars like the classic Corvettes, Cobras Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Chargers and Challengers from the ’60s and ’70s will rub wheel-arches with the strong custom American pick-up movement that is gathering steam.

 

There will also be a host of American street rods, as well as traditional classics from Britain and Europe, like Mk I Cortinas, Capris, Mini Coopers, and early Volkswagens and Kombis .

 

For the biking brigade, a special Harley Davidson display is sure to appeal and breakfast runners will be making the show a stop-off point which could last all day.

 

Children will also be catered for at the show with jumping castles and jungle jims, as well as a special go kart race where the dads provide the “horsepower.” There will be a range of food stalls and a beer garden to whet gastronomic appetites.

 

“Our firm will be displaying over 100 classics of our own at The Classic Car Show” says Mark Groenewald.

 

“As one of the leading car restoration companies in the greater Gauteng area we see this as a huge opportunity to show-case our skills, but more importantly, our passion for these old cars,” Rolling Thunder’s Mark Groenewald.

 

“But more importantly, we want to share our passion with everyone out there who owns a classic car, be it a tiny micro car with two cylinders or an eight-litre V8 pavement shaker.

 

It’s a bond that we all share, whatever the classic car discipline you follow. So we invite everyone to come along and celebrate with us.” The Classic Car Show will open its doors at the Nasrec Expo Centre, south west of Johannesburg, at 8 am on Sunday October 28

 

Exhibitors who want to bring their special show cars the night before will be catered for with special parking and security.
