Hogs, Prawns and Muscle

The Classic Car Show at Nasrec promises a feast for the eyes, the ears and, yes, the palate!

A Car Show with a difference! That’s the deal at The Classic Car Show at Nasrec, south of Jo’burg. This time around, the organisers are combining an array of American muscle cars, European classics, street rods, and custom trucks with a huge Hog-presence in the form of Harley Davidsons.

Organiser Paulo Calisto is also laying on a prawn festival to tantalise the palates of car-guys, bikers, and families. "So On Sunday December 4, Nasrec is going to have the delicious aroma of sizzling prawns grilled in all manner of spices, to mingle in with the traditional smells of high octane fuel and hot engine oil," explained Calisto.

  • Muscle Definition: Huge American V8 engines and large bodywork created between the mid-1960s and early 1980s.
  • Hog Riders: Harley Davidson chapters from across Gauteng will make the show an integral stop-over on their Sunday Run.
  • VW Culture: Split-window Kombis and classic Beetles remain a massive trend and are now highly sought-after collector items.

Pony Car Wars at Nasrec

The battle of the mid-size V8 icons resumes on the first weekend of July.

Blame it all on Gone in 60 Seconds. That was the movie from the year 2000 that changed the way the world thought about Pony Cars. Expect to see "Eleanor" clones—the gun-metal silver 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback—making a massive appearance.

The show highlights the rivalry between the Ford Mustang (launched in 1964) and its General Motors challenger, the Chevy Camaro. Additionally, Chrysler fans can look forward to the Plymouth Barracuda and the perfectly proportioned Dodge Challenger.

Hot Rods at The Classic Car Show

Created from older cars running big-bore American V8s, Hot Rods are a mobile art-form.

Working in association with Rolling Thunder, the show features "T-Buckets" and "Hi-boys." These cars stand out because they are created from older American models, stripped down and beefed up for speed and style.

The "Tri-Chevy" category (spanning 1955 to 1957) remains one of the most beautiful and popular among custom cruisers and street machines.

Golf Day at Nasrec

A gaggle of Golfs will descend on Nasrec, showcasing South Africa's most modified car cult.

From the original CitiGolf to the VR6 and the modern Golf R, the Volkswagen Golf remains a legend in the "Street Machine" section. Tuners often push these turbocharged engines well in excess of the 250 kW mark.
